Most souls born at this time of the year have a difficult incarnation because their life lesson is to serve. Naturally they feel it is much nicer to be served instead of being called to render continual helpfulness to others. It frequently happens that Taureans find themselves entangled with difficult family responsibilities, such as aged parents, crippled brothers or sisters who cannot fend for themselves, and sometimes inherited problems associated with dependants who have been sustained by previous members of the family.

Apart from enforced maintaining and willing service that may arise in connection with family affairs, these people invariably find themselves pushed into practical service. No matter what occupation they may follow, quite often they can be seen behind the scenes either with a tea towel in their hands as they wash the dishes, or hammering into position nails which hold together the platform on which their seemingly more fortunate fellows may express themselves in rhetoric or music.
It would help these people if they could understand the nature of the soil which they symbolise. In the positive (good) condition, earth is sustaining and fruitful because it supports and nourishes everything on its bosom. In the negative (bad) state, earth can be heavy and clogging, especially when deprived of its companion element which is water. In a similar way, Taureans need the right companions for without them they become dull and heavy. Intuitively knowing that they need friendships, they frequently develop a tendency to cling to their companions and to hoard possessions, as well as holding on to old ideas, thus becoming smothered by the excesses with which they try to surround themselves. These people need to learn how to relinquish as well as how to serve happily and generously.

The outworking of their serving can often be seen as they engage in such practical occupations as the preparation of food, nursing of children, tending the land, or simply in the faithful fulfilment of uninteresting tasks by means of which sufficient money may be earned for the needs of dependants. They are inclined to resent this mundane work, as they frequently wish to be engaged in the more glamorous tasks which seem to be attained so much more easily by the people under the aerial influences. When Taureans fail to achieve the fulfilment of their ambitions, they tend to develop grudges which can make them unpleasant, causing other people to avoid them instead of seeking their company. This in turn gives rise to further resentment and the `nobody understands me' attitude.

Body and soul are inseparably woven together, so their inharmonious emotional state often affects the 'soil' of the body, which is represented by the parts containing calcium and other minerals kept
